SIMpill - SIMpill

SIMpill provides innovative, proven and affordable solutions to problems experienced by health organisations. Their primary focus is the use of wireless technology to support people with chronic conditions who have to take their medication as prescribed. This is important as non-compliance when taking medication leads to waste in health expenditure, unnecessary morbidity and mortality and resistance to medication. The SIMpill device was specifically developed to ensure that these people take their medicine according to prescription.

SIMpill contracted Upfront Systems to develop the software counterpart to the SIMpill device. Every time the person opens the pill bottle, an SMS is sent to the server and compliance with the prescription is checked. Reminders or alerts are then sent out as necessary, either to the person, caregiver or community centre. The user interface to this system is built on Plone.
